Storytelling, poetry
readings, dramatic presentations, translation of works by African
American writers, discussions of student-selected works, audiotapes
and videotapes or literary works, and readings by parents, neighbors,
and community members are
all possible activities.
Readings of auto/biographies of African American contributors to
the content areas of science, mathematics, drama, art, music, performing
arts, athletics, writing, and history are encouraged.
Sources of
literature include school libraries, public libraries, elementary
science
units, elementary social studies units, literature reading series,
literature anthologies, your students, and your colleagues. Other
excellent sources are Essence, Ebony, Black Enterprise, Emerge,
and other African American magazines and journals.
