Learning Activities

1.     Students will read college-level texts.

Students will read and understand assigned text.

Course emphasis is on learning through activities; text will be used as a source of activities and a spur to class discussion.

2.     Students will understand lecture material.

Lectures will present information on career search process that supplements material available in text, handouts, on-line sources.

Lectures will be used sparingly to outline key points, provide context and background for in-class and out-of-class activities and discussion.

3.     Students will participate in classroom discussions.

Classroom discussion and in-class group activities will be a primary class activity.

Frequent group activities and open discussion will allow students to share outcomes of their individual work and learn from each other.

4.     Students will write a variety of documents.

Students will gain skill in writing polished resumes and cover letters, and in using writing to explore issues related to the job search process.

Students will prepare a sample resume and cover letter, and will complete written activities related to goal-setting, decision-making, and creating and implementing a plan of action.

5.     Students will understand quantitative problems.

 

 

6.     Students will be able to use a computer.

Students will use software programs and internet resources relevant to career exploration and job seeking.

Students will use the Discover and MCIS programs in the TCC, and will use career-related websites.

Students will actively use course information and resources in developing their own career exploration and decision-making strategy.
